Totally Astounded

I am not easily surprised anymore by the stupidity of people in general.  Most people are not really stupid, but they can be gullible and easily fooled. Just look at all of the hoax emails making the round or posted on Facebook to see what I mean.

There are a lot of other folks that are just uneducated about stuff, especially computers in general and certainly about being safe on the Internet.

However, when I read that a company was using the FREE version of Malwarebytes as their primary security, I almost choked.

This lack of regard for true security caused too many losses to count for consumers. If this is how companies are practicing security, then consumers are going to be hit again and again. The company in question said it was “in full compliance with industry practices”!

This is so frightning that I  never want do business with anyone again! I certainly hope it was just a misunderstanding about “full compliance’. I can only hope it was just ignorance and not just a greedy company that didn’t want to spend money to protect it’s customers.

Brian Krebs  of KrebsonSecurity made this information available.  I hope this will serve as a wake-up call to other companies trying to ‘save money’ by using a free product meant only for home users.(They should have been using the Pro version that runs in the background.) I am very much afraid this will continue as companies concerned with their bottom line will continue to scrimp on security without realizing they are jeopardizing their customers and ultimately their business.
